Reporting to the Health Centre/Nurse Manager, the Registered Nurse provides on-campus health care services for clients in a walk-in health center, and in emergency situations on campus. The incumbent applies professional skills to evaluate and give client care following established standards and practices and coordinates and delivers services to promote and maintain an optimal level of well-being and wellness for Sheridan’s student population.


What You’ll be Doing
  • Coordinating and delivering direct client care by obtaining relevant client histories, conducting physical examinations and assessments, providing client education for common health problems, anticipatory guidance, health maintenance and disease management and by providing medical management or other appropriate treatment;
  • Initiating, organizing and maintaining confidential client records, reports and letters etc. including maintenance of immunization records and client records;
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of clients using health services through compliance to all regulatory bodies and legislations applicable to health care practice;
  • Administering drugs or treatments based on policies and procedures and medical directives;
  • Monitoring new development and changes in health care as they apply to individuals, the public or professional practice;
  • Developing and maintaining linkages with Health care institutions, agencies and professionals such as public health department, physicians, area hospital(s), medical labs, area pharmaceutical representative;
  • Making recommendations to the manager regarding health care needs and preventions based on identified needs;
  • Providing health education and promotion on an ongoing basis as well as assigned project work;
  • Assisting with overseeing various student placements and peer mentors;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

You exhibit a progressive attitude to wellness and demonstrate an awareness of current mental health issues of students, trends in mental health and treatment modalities.


The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:
  • 4-year Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BScN) (preferred) or Nursing Diploma (RN)
  • 3 years of experience working in a diverse health care environment (preferably in hospital emergency, emergency health clinic or community health clinic) practicing a wide array of health service delivery to community within a framework of independent practice including: triaging, venipuncture, treatment procedures, laboratory work, health teaching and preventative health care (equivalency will be considered)
  • Certificate of Competence in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses
  • Valid certifications for first aid and CPR, venipuncture/phlebotomy certification (or equivalent) and a physical assessment certificate (or equivalent)
