Professor, Interaction Design, Experiential Design, Illustration

Post by sheridan »

Sheridan is looking for an outstanding individual to join our faculty team, starting in August 2022. The successful candidate will develop curriculum and teach a range of courses as a cross appointed hire in our Honours Bachelor of Interaction Design program, Honours Bachelor of Experiential Design and Honours Bachelor of Illustration programs in the Faculty of Animation, Arts & Design.

Candidates should demonstrate expertise that can inform curriculum across these three programs. The key areas of expertise include human-centred design (HCD), design thinking, interaction design methods and conceptual processes. HCD Design Thinking supports a focus on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in curriculum. It also informs an approach to ideation and concept development in conceptual process courses across programs. Interaction Design methods are core to the Honours Bachelor of Interaction Design but there are courses with interaction design knowledge in the Honours Bachelor of Experiential Design and Honours Bachelor of Illustration.

Experience with data visualization and information design to support both course delivery and curriculum evolution is also beneficial across the three programs. There is a desire for the candidate to be able to address the challenges of integrating emerging design technologies into curriculum. Technical expertise in the area of UI/UX (User Interface/Experience) will also be beneficial.

The candidate should be able to foster and maintain collaboration with community and industry partners and structure these relationships in curriculum with an ability to support and grow an experiential learning and research focus. Candidates should demonstrate proven ability to develop and lead project work.

Experience with online curriculum design and delivery with a knowledge of pedagogical strategies related to this mode of delivery will be valuable. Demonstrated ability to integrate research and practice in their area(s) of expertise with their teaching and collaborative involvement in curriculum development in response to evolving industry and pedagogical practices in designs are considered assets. Special consideration will be given to candidates who show evidence of an advanced design practice, academic, and creative scholarship, as well as knowledge of contemporary design within a range of social and cultural contexts.

The Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design has an EDI Charter of values that supports the community and articulates the following values:
