Inclusive Hiring Initiative

Sheridan is looking for an outstanding individual to join our faculty team, starting in August 2022. The successful candidate will develop curriculum and teach a range of courses to students in our Honours Bachelor of Interaction Design, Honours Bachelor of Illustration, and Bachelor of Honours Experiential Design programs in the Faculty of Animation, Arts & Design. These degree programs prepare students to work as visual communicators and designers in the field of interactive design, experiential design, and Illustration communications.

The disciplinary focus of this hire can engage two areas of expertise. These areas can either be separate or integrated.

Experience in narrative methodologies and a focus on multi-platform delivery will support a range of courses across programs.
Entrepreneurship is embedded in the design and visual communications fields, and expertise in business and entrepreneurship in these fields will support curriculum across all three programs.

Candidates who demonstrate expertise in either area will be considered for this position. If applicants have combined experience in both areas this will be considered as well.

Demonstrated ability to integrate research and practice in their area(s) of expertise with their teaching and collaborative involvement in curriculum development in response to evolving industry and pedagogical practices in design and illustration disciplines are considered assets. Technical expertise to support a knowledge of multi-platform narrative environments in one or more of the following will also be beneficial: UI/UX (User Interface/Experience), AR/ VR/ XR (Augmented Reality/ Virtual Reality/ Mixed Reality) and the applications for AI (Artificial Intelligence). Business and entrepreneurial experience applied to the design and visual communications fields with a knowledge of networks, business processes, and start-up processes would help inform curriculum across programs.

Special consideration will be given to candidates who show evidence of an advanced design practice, academic, and creative scholarship as well as knowledge of contemporary design within a range of social and cultural contexts.

What You’ll be Doing
  • Ensuring that program and course curricula are current, relevant, and reflective of best practices within the relevant professional/program disciplines
  • Defining, evaluating, and validating learning outcomes for courses and programs
  • Fostering an effective environment for applied learning which accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and learning styles
  • Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning that are inclusive and reflective of best practices in teaching and learning
  • Developing appropriate strategies and tools to assess student performance that are consistent with the learning outcomes of the course and address multiple learning styles
  • Developing multi-media materials and alternative curriculum delivery strategies, and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the applied learning process
About You

You have a demonstrated ability to convey the conceptual and applied aspects of knowledge and expertise to a broad range of students.

  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience
  • A personal and informed view of contemporary design practices, issues, and criticism
  • Breadth and depth of knowledge and experience in narrative methodologies and/ or entrepreneurial and business acumen and expertise
