DUTIES:

Northern College is seeking a qualified professional to teach a variety of courses in the Veterinary Sciences programs.

The incumbent will be responsible for the delivery of theoretical and practical courses and will be required to teach courses, which will include subjects related to animal nursing, health and care.

As part of teaching assigned courses, the successful candidate will be expected to act as an academic advisor to students in the program, participate as a leader and effective team member working in groups at the college, and create a positive teaching and learning environment using a variety of strategies and materials in the multi-modal delivery of courses. The incumbent should embody a commitment to student success and professional development and demonstrate capacity for leadership in a multi-cultural organization. In addition, the successful candidate must ensure currency and relevance of the teaching material and assessment techniques, must participate in recruitment and program promotion initiatives, and participate in professional development activities at Northern College relevant to his/her own needs.

The incumbent will also provide leadership within the cluster of Veterinary Sciences programs and support the accreditation and compliance processes associated with organizations such as the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC), Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO). In addition, they will support the College’s ambitions in veterinary-related practical Applied Research and in new and renewed veterinary science related programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The incumbent will possess the following qualifications:

Registered Veterinary Technician with the OAVT/RVTTC and/or;
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine;
A minimum of five (5) years’ work experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Excellent knowledge of clinical and laboratory techniques;
Proficient with the use of computers and MS Office Suite;
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment;
Willingness to undertake professional development aligned with supporting college program needs may be required;
Experience in teaching considered an asset; and
Strong leadership skills, visionary capacity and commitment to positive community development considered an asset.
The incumbent may be required to provide a criminal reference check.
