Mohawk College is currently recruiting for our next

Professor, Business Systems

Mohawk College seeks a qualified candidate for a full-time professor position who will instruct in various programs including our Computer Science and Information Technology, as well as our Digital Health programs.

Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Professors in this department are responsible for providing academic leadership for developing an effective learning environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:

​Teaching the theory and practical application components.
​Creating a positive and innovative student-centered learning environment in both the classroom and laboratory settings.
​Using a variety of teaching strategies most appropriate for the curriculum.
​Using a variety of techniques to evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes.
​Managing the educational environment to facilitate an optimal learning experience and student success.
​Evaluating, revising, and developing learning resources within the program.
​Enhancing educational delivery and experiences through the use of technology to facilitate student learning.
​Applying college values and philosophy in work activities and interaction with others.
​Using the college’s learning management system to present curriculum, testing and online activities.
​Delivering a mix of courses that are online, hybrid, and in person depending upon operational work assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant must have:

​The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Epidemiology, Computer Architecture, Business Systems, or an adjacent field.
​Possess a student-centric attitude toward instruction at both an introductory and senior level and the ability and interest in mentoring students.
Familiarity with a range of applications for deployment in the Ontario Healthcare system operating environment.
​Experience teaching at the post-secondary level (college or university) is strongly preferred.
​Five or more years of industry experience (non-academic) is preferred.
​Experience in conducting independent research is preferred, as there will be an expectation in the role to develop and engage in original applied research.
​Candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
​Work inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
​Candidate must have a thesis topic that directly relates to business systems or an adjacent field.
​Ability and interest in developing, maintaining, and enhancing course materials to remain current with future industry standards.
​Knowledge of basic networking, software development, Object Oriented Analysis and Design, and Relational Database & Design.
​A working knowledge of the health care system and business environments in Ontario.
​The ability to teach a variety of undergraduate computer science classes including courses in general networking, programming, object-oriented systems, project management, and cloud computing.
​Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
