Mohawk College is currently recruiting for our next

Counsellor – Intake Specialist

Reporting to the Director, Campus Wellness, the Counsellor will work within the multidisciplinary team to provide students with mental health support and counselling services to address barriers to academic success while at Mohawk College. The counsellor will maintain a small caseload and take the lead on intake and referral appointments.

Responsibilities:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

​Provide direct service to students experiencing a wide range of personal issues and complex mental health issues.
Provide initial intake and referral appointments to students accessing services for the first time.
Walk-in, single session, and ongoing appointments utilizing evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions offered both virtually and in-person.
Contribute to other services including campus consultations, workshops and outreach programming to enhance student and campus life.
Maintain timely clinical records in accordance with college and professional standards.
Actively participate, as part of a multidisciplinary Wellness Team, to ensure best practices and student safety.
Supervision of Master’s level clinical interns and/or college placement students.
Provision of on-site services at all department sites and locations, may include the student residence, Stoney Creek Campus and IAHS Campus
Demonstrate cross-cultural competence and understanding of the complexity of elements impacting our diverse student population in relation to values, culture, communication styles, beliefs and practices.
Engage campus and community-based supports to meet the needs of our student population within a stepped care model.
Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

​Master’s level degree in a counselling related professional discipline (Social Work, Psychology) that includes a supervised clinical internship(s).
Must have and maintain the right to independently practice the controlled act of Psychotherapy within the Province of Ontario. Registered with OCSWSSW or CRPO, CPO, or equivalent Professional Colleges and Associations.
A minimum of 5 years of full-time experience providing counselling and/or psychotherapy.
Must meet the CRPO criteria for clinical supervisors, including 30 hours of directed learning in providing clinical supervision.
Knowledge and experience in utilizing a broad range of evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions is required.
Knowledge of the risks and complexity of issues impacting emerging adult populations.
Demonstrated ability in crisis intervention.
Demonstrated self-awareness, knowledge, skills and attitudes essential for effective communication, relationship-building, educating, and supervising within a diverse setting is required.
Demonstrated flexibility and the ability to respond quickly to changing demands.
Proficiency in using technology to compliment clinical care and experience using an EMR/CRM platform strongly preferred.
Experience with counselling in the post-secondary environment is considered an asset.
Experience in academic and career counselling is an asset.
Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
