Mohawk College is currently recruiting for our next

Professor, Programs for Newcomers

Community Partnerships and Learning requires two full time Professors to teach within the Programs for Newcomers portfolio. Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Community Partnerships and Learning, all professors are responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective learning environment.



RESPONSIBILITIES:


The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:

Create a positive learning environment in the classroom and laboratories.
Use a variety of teaching and learning strategies including online learning.
Use a variety of techniques to evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes, specifically Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA).
Ensure student awareness of program objectives, approach to CLB language level progression and evaluation techniques;.
Develop, deliver and revise learning resources within the department.
Carry out regularly scheduled instruction.
Tutoring and academic counselling of students.
Provide a learning environment which makes effective use of available resources.
Evaluate student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the student's work within assigned courses.
Participate in the work of curriculum and other consultative committees as requested.
Develop individualized instruction and multi-media presentations where applicable.


QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant must have:

A Master’s degree in Education, Adult Education or Applied Linguistics
TESL Ontario Certification.
A minimum of five years of experience teaching English to newcomers to Canada.
A minimum of three years of experience teaching within the Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) framework.
Prior teaching experience at the postsecondary level would be an asset.
Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
The successful candidate must have an ability to relate theoretical knowledge and practical applications through innovative delivery methods so as to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and ages. The ability to work as a part of a team and demonstration of excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

Faculty members hired at Mohawk College must be prepared to teach with a learner-centered approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods. He/she may be assigned to teach classes at any College Campus.
