Mohawk College is currently recruiting for our next

Professor, Software Engineering

Mohawk College seeks a qualified candidate for a full-time professor position who will instruct into various programs in our Computer Science and Information Technology programs, as well as other advanced diploma and other degree programs.

Possess a student centric attitude toward the instruction of students at both an introductory and senior level and the ability and interest in mentoring students.
Possess the ability to teach a variety of undergraduate computer science classes including courses in Python, Java, HTML& CSS, Data Structures, and Client and Server Side Web programming.
Possesses the skillset to teach some or all of the specialized skills associated with web development: React and other component-based frameworks, React Native, NodeJS, Laravel, Redis, Websockets, RESTful APIs, JavaScript frameworks, chatbots, Docker, payment APIs such as Paypal/Stripe, interface design and related principles, and conducting data catalog searches.
Experience with jQuery libraries and plugins, AJAX, PHP, MySQL, and PHP MVC frameworks would be beneficial.
Additional experience with iPhone or Android programming is beneficial but not required.
Ability and interest in developing, maintaining, and enhancing course materials to remain current with future industry standards.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:

Teaching the theory and practical application components.
Creating a positive and innovative student-centered learning environment in both the classroom and laboratory settings.
Using a variety of teaching strategies most appropriate for the curriculum for both postsecondary and apprentices.
Using a variety of techniques to evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes.
Managing the educational environment to facilitate an optimal learning experience and student success.
Evaluating, revising and developing learning resources within the program.
Enhancing educational delivery and experiences through the use of technology to facilitate student learning.
Applying college values and philosophy in work activities and interaction with others.
Using the college’s learning management system to present curriculum, testing and online activities.
Delivering a mix of courses that are online, hybrid, and in person depending upon operational work assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant must have:

Five or more years of industry experience (non-academic) is preferred.
This position has a preferred educational designation of a post-graduate degree. Consideration may be given to those who have an in-progress post-graduate degree as a condition of employment.
Experience teaching at the post-secondary level (college or university) is strongly preferred.
Interest in developing and engaging in original research
Candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
Priority will be given to candidates that enhance the diversity of our team.


The successful candidate must have an ability to relate theoretical knowledge and practical applications through innovative delivery methods so as to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and ages. The ability to work as a part of a team and demonstration of excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

Faculty members hired at Mohawk College must be prepared to teach with a learner-centered approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods. He/she may be assigned to teach classes at any College Campus.
