About the Position:
As a Registered Psychotherapist, Psychologist, or Social Work professional, with a Master’s degree and recent clinical and community experience serving a diverse population, you will welcome this opportunity to join our full-time academic team. Reporting to the Manager of Counselling & Accessibility Services, you will work as member of a collaborative, professional team to provide a range of academic, personal/mental health, accessibility, and career counselling services, designed to assist individual students to successfully obtain their academic goals.
Position to commence January 2023
Salary range: 66,555.00 - $115,378
All candidates selected for an interview may be required to present on a topic related to the position during the interview process.
Specific Accountabilities:
•Provides short-term counselling support to students who request academic, personal, mental health, and/or career counselling;
Provides counselling support to students living in Residence or other areas of the college as required;
•Provides crisis intervention services including preliminary triage and direct liaison with local crisis support services;
•Maintains student files and confidential case management details in digital clinical record keeping database;
•Acts in a consultative and training role to faculty and staff to identify and address student issues;
•Develops and facilitates workshops on related issues and makes referrals as required; group counselling experience an asset;
•Participates as a collaborative and consultative member of the Student Success Division and Counselling team to achieve College goals that contribute to student retention and success in the learning environment;
•Builds and maintains community partnerships to address specific ongoing needs of students and works collaboratively with mental health agencies and other community, provincial and national organizations;
•Works on special projects as assigned to advance the provision of Student Success at Lambton College.
Qualifications:
•Master’s or PhD degree in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work or relevant professional degree is required and the successful candidate will be a registered member qualified to practice the controlled act of psychotherapy in the Province of Ontario;
•A minimum of five years recent, relevant professional experience as a member of a clinical, educational, community agency or teaching team serving a diverse population is required;
•Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, work with diverse populations, respond to needs in a sensitive and positive manner and utilize excellent judgment;
•Must have an in-depth understanding of personal, social, and educational challenges that affect postsecondary student life and learning;
•Experience providing counselling support to students in a post-secondary environment, with understanding of diversity issues impacting students and related legislation / guidelines including the Ontario Human Rights Code, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, AODA and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms;
•The successful candidate will have demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge and application of counselling techniques, confidentiality, and current standards of professional practice; Single Session counselling and trauma-informed training an asset
•The successful candidate will have excellent group presentation and interpersonal skills, including superior ability to establish rapport, analytical and research skills, initiative, and the ability to function independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
•Strong and effective computer skills, MS Office and Teams, case and learning management systems, knowledge of adaptive technology and digital tools for student support services;
•Demonstrated success engaged in positive and collaborative problem-solving and teamwork that supports the success of our diverse student population,
•Excellent mediation and conflict resolution skills; written and verbal communication skills.
