What This Position is About:

Reporting to the Academic Chair, Professors in The School of Health & Community Services play a key role in creating a learning environment and experience that is inclusive of all students by way of using a variety of teaching methodologies, providing timely feedback, and through authentic and differentiated assessments. Faculty work and teach both individually and in teams to design, develop, and deliver curriculum to students using lectures, seminars, labs, and field placements.

The Fleming College Respiratory Therapy program is a six-semester Ontario Advanced Diploma and provides students with knowledge, skills, attitudes and clinical judgement to provide optimal cardio-respiratory care to diverse patients/clients in a range of practice settings including acute care and community environments. Graduates will be prepared to write the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists certification exam to become a licenced respiratory therapist.

This position is based at the Sutherland Campus in Peterborough, Ontario.

What We Are Looking For:

You must possess a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in a related field as well as a Diploma from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program. A Bachelor’s Degree or a Master’s Degree in Adult Education is considered beneficial. Current and active general certificate of registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (C.R.T.O.) without limitation is required. Certification in BCLS or ACLS is considered an asset. A minimum of five (5) years of recent experience in an active Respiratory Therapy environment dealing with areas such as pulmonary function labs, homecare, sleep clinics, emergency department, intensive care unit, operating room (intubations/arterial lines), medical wards, pulmonary rehab, and neonates/pediatrics is required. Preference will be given to those with acute care experience.

You have experience in applying theories of adult learning in teaching or training as well as designing curriculum at the post-secondary level.

This role requires self-motivation, flexibility, adaptability to change, and a passion for learning and student success. You have the ability to enhance the student experience by creating a rich and open learning environment that embraces creative teaching and evaluation methods that promote inclusion and diversity. You have the ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment, with strong conflict resolution and leadership abilities, including the drive to continuously learn and achieve results through consultative decision-making processes. Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deliver and receive feedback, as well as highly developed critical thinking/problem solving, and organizational/time management skills are required. This role requires the incumbent to demonstrate accountability and responsiveness to students, colleagues and the community, including a proven knowledge of current and upcoming industry trends in Respiratory Therapy.

You have demonstrated cultural awareness and a commitment to Fleming’s Indigenous Education Protocol and Fleming’s Honoring the Rights of Indigenous People Policy. Experience developing & delivering curriculum in the form of lectures, seminars, labs, work placements, field trips, simulation, interprofessional educational experiences, and/or other innovative delivery methods is also required. You foster student success through the use of effective, consistent and timely feedback underpinned with a competency and outcomes-based approach to achievement. Experience in an e-learning environment is a definite asset with proficiency in current respiratory therapy teaching technologies (including EPIC and Learning Management Systems) is preferred.
