The School of Skilled Trades, Apprenticeship and Renewable Technology Requires a Full-time Professor for Electrical Engineering Technician, Electrical Techniques and Electrical (309A and 442A) Apprenticeship

Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and student success. The School of Skilled Trades, Apprenticeship and Renewable Technology requires a full-time professor to teach in the following areas as part of the Electrical Engineering Technician, Electrical Techniques and Electrical (309A and 442A) Apprenticeship programs:

• Electronics
• Instrumentation
• PLCs
• Installation Methods
• Prints
• Electrical Code

Candidates must be available to teach Monday through Thursday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The responsibilities of Durham College Professors include, but are not limited to:
1. Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and individual learning styles;
2. Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
3. Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and on-line courses;
4. Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
5. Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
6. Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
7. Working effectively with students, the program team and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:
1. A Certificate of Apprenticeship (C of A) and a Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) in Electrical are required; an undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study is preferred; a Bachelor of Education or Master of Education is an asset.
2. Red seal preferred.
3. A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience.
4. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of UDL and current assessment methodologies.
5. Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
6. Demonstrated commitment to putting student experience first.
7. Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
8. Proven track record of life-long learning.
9. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators and community stakeholders.
10. Understanding of the Ontario college system.

Preference will be given to candidates with relevant educational credentials and a proven track record of relevant work/teaching experience.

Candidates selected for an interview will be required to provide a 20-minute teaching demonstration. Details will be provided when interviews are scheduled.
