Job Description:
Salary range is $66,555 to $115,378 per annum, established in terms of relevant educational qualifications and experience.
Under the direction of the Chair, Electrical, Horticulture and Building Science, the Professor, is responsible for facilitating and guiding learning and providing an effective learning environment for all students. The professional responsibilities include:
The design/revision/updating of courses, including:
consulting with program and course administrators and other faculty members, advisory committees and a variety of potential employers and students
defining learning outcomes and evaluating and validating these outcomes
specifying and approving learning approaches, necessary resources, etc.
incorporating educational technologies to meet the learning needs of 21st Century students
reviewing and revising curriculum and participating in professional development activities during non-teaching periods
The teaching of assigned courses, including:
delivery of regularly scheduled instruction in the Fall, Winter, or Summer terms in home department or across departments
ensuring student awareness of course learning outcomes and evaluation techniques
providing tutoring and academic advising for students both in and out of class
providing a learning environment which makes effective use of available resources including educational technologies
evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the student’s work within assigned courses
the development and creation of a learning environment that is conducive to success for all students
The provision of academic leadership, including:
providing guidance to students, to instructors, and to part-time professors relative to the professor’s teaching assignments
participating in the work of curriculum and other consultative committees, and departmental/faculty meetings
liaising with community members, engaging in program, Department, School or Faculty, and College promotion
remaining current in the field of study and maintain awareness of emerging trends and practices related to teaching and learning in higher education

Required Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Building Science or Building Engineering, or, Doctoral degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on building envelope; PEng. is an asset;
Minimum 2 years of teaching experience, or equivalent, preferably in a college or university setting;
Minimum 5 years practical experience in building science with a focus on building envelope (engineering/design/commissioning/inspection/testing or consulting);
Skills and knowledge in the following (candidates must meet at least 5 out of the 8 required skills and knowledge):
Technical proficiency with respect to variables that influence the design of building envelopes, including the control of moisture penetration, air and heat flow, building movements, and deterioration;
Experience in the practical application of air/vapour barrier and rain-screen systems;
Knowledge of performance assessment and building code requirements of building envelope systems; including qualitative and quantitative laboratory or field testing to meet the relevant performance standards;
Building envelope design for above-grade walls, below-grade walls, roofs, windows/doors, joints and assemblies;
Ability to identify cause of deterioration and applicable preventive measures on site investigation;
Appropriate use of relevant building codes and standards such as ASTM Testing Standards, American Architectural Manufactures Association (AAMA) Testing Standards, Canadian Standards Association (CSA A440), North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS), and Ontario Building Code;
Competency on building and material science for Building Enclosure Commissioning;
Ability to translate past building envelope education and experience into design projects and case studies that could be applied at the undergraduate level.
The following knowledge and/or experience would be considered an asset:
With sustainable building practices;
With building rehabilitation as it relates to building envelope performance;
With the thermal performance of buildings within various climates and the impact on the building as a system performance;
With hygrothermal performance software such as WUFI, Delphin, etc.;
With thermal performance software such as Therm, Ansys, etc.;
With ASHRAE handbook- fundamentals (as applicable to building envelope);
With high performance enclosures including thermal efficiency (PassiveHaus, Net-Zero, etc.);
With cold climate building science approaches;
With educational technology and adaptability to remote teaching.
Ability to participate in scholarly activities and research;
Ability to work as a team member;
Demonstrated leadership quality would be an asset;
Demonstrated knowledge of student success strategies in a postsecondary setting;
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of educational technologies; experience in the development and delivery of hybrid and online curriculum is considered an asset;
Highly effective communication, presentation, and organizational skills;
